Co-articulation is the process of making one sound almost at the same time as the next. There are two well-known co-articulation effects, called "assimilation" and "elision"

    Assimilation

when two phonemes occur in sequence and some aspect of one phoneme is taken or copied by the other, the process is known as assimilation

    More information about assimilation

A phonological process in which a speech sound changes and becomes more like or identical to another sound that preceded or follows

    For example

In English the negative prefix appears as im before words beginning with a bilabial stop
e.g. impossible, but as in -before words bginning with alveolar stop

    e.g.intolerant

    Elision
The leaving out of a sound or sounds in speech
    For example
    The proununciation of -suppose
