[ From the poem of Adoration of God. ]
عرفتُ الهوى مُذْ عرفتُ هَواكا
واَغْلَقْتُ قلبي عَمَّنْ سِواكا
I have (only) known love when I knew your love.
and I’ve closed my heart to all but You.
وقُمْتُ اُناجيكَ ، يا مَنْ تَرَى
خَفايا القلوبِ ولَسْنا نَراكا
I soliloquy (whispered in prayer to) You, He who knows the secrets of hearts while none see You.
اُحِبُّكَ حُبَّيْن.. حُبُّ الهوى
وحُبّاً لأنَّكَ أَهْلٌ لِذَاكا
Two loves I have for You: A love of Adoration.
and a love because You are worthy of it.
فأَمَّا الذي هُوَ حُبُّ الهَوَى
فَشُغْليَ بِذِكْرِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكا
As for the love of Adoration, I (constantly) remember You and You Alone.
وأَمَّا الذي أَنْتَ أَهْلٌ لَهُ
فَكَشْفُكَ لِي الحُجْب حتى أراكا
As for the love that You are worthy of, (it is because) You lift the veil and let me see You (get to know).
فلا الحَمْدُ في ذا ولا ذاكَ لي
ولَكِنْ لَكَ الحَمْدُ في ذا وَذَاكا ...
Hence, I do not deserve the praise for (loving You in) this or that, Yet the praise in both is due to You.
