يا ابْـنَ آدَم !
Oh, son of Adam!
أتدري ماذا يقول مَلَكُ الموت وأنتَ نائمٌ على خَشَبَةِ الغسل؟
Do you know what the Angel of Death say when you lay down on the burial washing table???
ينادي عليكَ ويَقول :
He calls on you and say:
يا ابْنَ آدم !
Oh, son of Adam!
أيْنَ سَـمْعُكَ ؟ ما الذي جعلكَ أصَمّاً؟!
Where is your hearing? What made you deaf??
أين بَـصَـرُكَ ؟ ما الذي جعلكَ أعمی؟!
Where is your sight? What made you blind?
أين لِسانُكَ ؟ ما الذي جعلكَ أخْرَساً؟!
Where is your tongue? What made you mute?
أين ريحُكَ الطَّيِّب ؟ ما الذي غَـيَّرك؟!
Where is your good smell? What changed you (your smell)??
أين مالُكَ ؟ ما الذي جعلكَ فقيراً ؟!
Where is your money? What made you poor?
فإذا وُضِعْتَ في القبر
And when you are placed in the grave
نادى عليك المَلَكُ :
The Angel of Death call on you:
يا ابن آدم !
Oh, son of Adam!
جَـمَـعْـتَ الدنيا أمِ الدنيا جَـمَـعَـتْكَ؟
Did you have the world? or did the world have you??
يا ابن آدم !
Oh, son of Adam!
تَـرَكْـتَ الـدنـيا ، أمِ الـدنـيا تَرَكَـتْـك؟
Did you leave the world, or did the world leave you?
يا ابن آدم !
Oh, son of Adam!
اسْـتَـعْـدَدْتَ لِلْـمَـوِتِ ، أمِ المَنِيَّة عاجَلَـتْك ؟!
Did you prepare for your death or did death surprise you?!
يا ابن آدم !
Oh, son of Adam!
خَـرَجْـتَ مِنَ التراب ، وعُـدْتَ إلى التراب ،
You came out of the soil, and to the soil you returned.
خَرجتَ مِنَ التراب بلا ذَنْب ،
You came out of the soil without a sin,
وعُـدْتَ إلى التراب وكُـلُّكَ ذنوب
And to the soil you returned full of sins.

اسْـتَـعْـدَدْتَ لِلْـمَـوِتِ ، أمِ المَنِيَّة عاجَلَـتْك ؟!

خَـرَجْـتَ مِنَ التراب ، وعُـدْتَ إلى التراب ،
You came out of the soil, and to the soil you returned.
خَرجتَ مِنَ التراب بلا ذَنْب ،
You came out of the soil without a sin,
وعُـدْتَ إلى التراب وكُـلُّكَ ذنوب
And to the soil you returned full of sins.
